It is built to resemble a typical household of Ano Meria just as it would have been some decades ago. So the museum of folklore is made up of the main dwelling, the storehouse, oven, cellar, stables, chicken-house, threshing floor, wine-press, etc. All around the complex are the farmlands which the older inhabitants used to cultivate in order to produce their daily needs.

A visit to this setting will transport you to an era long ago...

In Folegandros, you can spend your afternoons pleasantly by taking in the island’s  various sights...

The Greek Orthodox Temple of Virgin Mary: if you take the uphill path which begins at Punda square (bus  station), you reach the temple of Virgin Mary where you can admire the icon which the locals worship and  believe to be miraculous.

The building of the temple began back in 1816 and it was completed in 1821. Studies show that it is situated on the very spot where the ancient Temple of Apollon and Artemis once stood. In various spots both indoors and outside the church you will observe marble statues dating back to Roman times (ie. at the base of the belfry, on the external walls, at the base of the altar).

Finally, the sunset and the overall view of the town from above completes your outing in the loveliest way.

The Museum of Folklore: The folklore Museum of Folegandros first opened in 1988 and is a valuable source of information regarding the lifestyle of the people that inhabited the island
long ago.

It has a triangular shape – with its base facing the East, the top facing West and one of its two sides facing the North part of the island, over the cliff. The southern part of the castle, where the two main entrances are, belongs to the part of town where the town squares are located, which was developed later on. Up until then, the town’s 150-200 families lived well protected inside the Castle's one-room houses.

The Castle: The castle was build in 1212 by the Venetian Marcus Sanoudos who was then the Duke of the Aegean. The castle of Folegandros is made up of a part of the main town's houses and is not a fortress as many may expect to see.
